I do not know if the method still works, or WG patched and blocked it, or whatever. but nevertheless, if you want to keep using your pre-existing WG account, then you probably have no other choice but to use WG's own WGC to download the game and log in.
On top of that, the method sort of just faded away after a while, and I never heard about it since. However, doing so would not allow you to earn Steam achievements, nor use the Steam wallet to buy anything from the in-game Premium shop. When the Steam version of the game first came out, there used to be a way to fiddle with the files to make your pre-existing WG account to work with the Steam version of the game. You can turn that pseudo-account into a proper WG account, which then allows you to start posting on this forum using the said account, by registering it at the WG website. When you first try to log into the game through the Steam version, the game will try to create a new pseudo-account that is linked to your Steam account. You can't bring your pre-existing WG account and use it on the Steam version of the game.
